1.     Replacement Schedule of the New Supercomputer System

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Our center is scheduled to terminate the service of a current supercomputer system

on Fri. July 15, 2022, and replace to a new system.

We are currently in the process of procuring the new system to operate

the new system in October 2022, however, we are unable to provide

any definite information at this time.

Please refer to the following URL for the provisional information.

The definite information is expected to be released around April 2022.

http://www.iimc.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/services/comp/supercomputer/coming_2022.html

The recent global shortage of semiconductors has caused price increase

and delays in the delivery of the equipment and the situation

have a significant impact on the procurement schedule for the new system.

Depending on the situation, the operation of the successor to the current

system A (Camphor2) may be delayed, and we may provide only the successor

to the current systems B and C (Laurel2 and Cinnamon2) and

small-scale systems equipped with an accelerator as of October 2022.

We expect to operate the successor of the current system A in early 2023,

however, please consider ensuring computing resources

by using supercomputers of other universities' infrastructure centers, cloud services, etc.

if necessary since we may not be able to provide sufficient computing resources until then.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the system replacement.

Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, The University of Tokyo,

Tokyo Institute of Technology, Nagoya University, Kyoto University,

Osaka University and Kyushu University,

among which Information Technology Center at the University of Tokyo

is functioning as the core institution of JHPCN.

Each JHPCN member institution will provide its research resources

for joint research projects.

From this call, in addition to each of the constituent centers,

the "mdx" computing infrastructure, which is jointly operated by

the National Institute of Informatics, the National Institute of

Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST),

and the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research University of Tsukuba

will newly provide computing resource for the joint research.

The available research resources are computers, storages, visualization systems

and so on.

Some of them can be connected to facilities inside and outside of JHPCN member

institutions via high-speed networks for the purposes of exchange,

accumulation and processing of data.

It is also possible to connect research resources of JHPCN member

institutions with SINET5 L2VPN.

8.     Call for Collaborative Research Project for FX700 "Trial Use" and "Small Node Use" for FY2021Reposting

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Academic Center for Computing and Media Studies, Kyoto University (ACCMS)

calls for proposals of the collaborative research project

for the “Trial Use" and the "Small Node Use" of the Fujitsu FX700

which is equipped with the same ARM processor as the supercomputer Fugaku

for research groups using our supercomputer with the Group Course in the fiscal year 2021.

The "Trial Use" of FX700 is intended to be widely tried by the users of our supercomputer

by making the application form simple.

The research report is also simplified and only operation report and performance report

of the executed application are required.

The collaborative research project for the "Small Node Use" will be adopted

from users who have already finished the operation confirmation of the application

on the "FX700 Trial Use". Submitted proposals are reviewed

by Supercomputer System Collaborative Research Planning Committee.

If your proposal is adopted, you will be required to submit a research report.

There is no cost burden for using this project.
