Logging In With Exceed onDemand

As PC X server software, Exceed onDemand 8J is available.

In Exceed onDemand, traffic is reduced using a data compression technique. It allows users to get fast remote access when operating a GUI-based application and others.

  1. Exceed onDemand(the latest version: version 8) is already installed. Refer to Installing Exceed onDemandon how to install.
  2. Private key is already registered via user portal. Refer to Creating Key Pair and Registering Public Keyon how to generate a key pair.
  3. Setup to log in to the system with PuTTY is completed. Refer to Logging In On Windows.

  1. OpenSSH is already installed. OpenSSH is pre-installed in recent distributions.
  2. Private key is already registered via user portal. Refer to Creating Key Pair and Registering Public Keyon how to generate a key pair.

※So far we have provided the port forwarding by portforwarder, however the update of the portforwarder has been stopped for long periods. Then we provide the port forwarding by Putty for safety.

  1. Start up Putty and the "Putty Configuration" dialogue is desplayed.

  2. Select the system which you want to log in in the "Saved Sessions" and click on "Load".

  3. Click on “SSH” in the “Category” and select “Tunnels”.

  4. Enter the following contents depending on each system in the “Source port” and “Destination” as listed below then click on “Add”. Make sure these settings are added in the "Forwarded ports" box.

  5. Select “Session” in the Category and click on "Save" .The above-mentioned setting operations are not required from the next log-in.

  6. Log in to the system which you want to log in with Putty.

  7. Start up Exceed onDemand by double-clicking the ExceedonDemand.exe during running the port-forwarded PuTTY terminal.

  8. The Exceed onDemand startup window appears, enter the "localhost" depending on each system in the Host field as listed below, your user ID number in the User ID field, and your password in the Password field, then click Login.

  9. Select Passive.cfg in Xconfig and Japanese_Gnome_Terminal.xs in Xstart, then click OK.

  10. If you are successful in logging in, you will see a terminal window.

  1. Open the terminal window, then do SSH port forwarding by entering the following command depending on each system.

    Private Cluster ssh User ID@Group Number.kudpc.kyoto-u.ac.jp -L 5509:localhost:5509

     

  2. During running the port-forwarded terminal, start up Exceed onDemand by clicking the ExceedonDemand.exe.
  3. The Exceed onDemand startup window appears, enter the "localhost" depending on each system in the Host field as listed below, your user ID number in the User ID field, and your password in the Password field, then click Login.

  4. Select Passive.cfg in Xconfig and Japanese_Gnome_Terminal.xs in Xstart, then click OK.
  5. If you are successful in logging in, you will see a terminal window.
